SeniorNet Services

Kapiti SeniorNet offers more to its members than just the range of structured and tutored courses we are most known for. A member of SeniorNet can also avail themselves of any of the following services:

Monthly Question and Answer Workshop

Held on the third Thursday of every month at 9:30am. The session features a short talk and/or demonstration of a topic of interest to members followed by a general question and answer period where attendees may ask any questions they wish. A few experienced members endeavour to answer the questions, with welcome assistance from any of the attendees. Admission to these workshops are by way of a gold-coin donation to help defray operating costs.

WinTutor and FileTutor tutorial computer programmes

SeniorNet offers members the opportunity to trial and/or buy these two very helpful computer based, self study programmes. WinTutor is an excellent course that teaches the basic skills and knowledge needed to use a computer i.e. keyboard and mouse skills, and general Windows concepts. It complements the material taught in the 3week, Beginners Introduction to Computers, course and the early part of the 4 week Introducing Computers course, by helping the student practice at home what is being learned in class. FileTutor is a more advanced self-study program, dealing with the workings of Windows, files, and folders in greater depth. It complements the material taught in the 5 week Introduction to Windows XP Part and Windows XP Part 2 courses. Each Tutor program comes on a CD and costs $12, a special price for SeniorNet members.

Personal assistance from tutors and other experienced members

As an organisation established to help each other learn how to use computers we are all available to help one another in the effort. Everyone should feel free to ask others for help or advice as well as offer the same when appropriate. Tutors, especially, are happy to help students in whatever way they can, including going to the students home to sort out problems. Just ask nicely!
