From the Chair
Welcome to 2010: We hope that you all had a good break
Well after a very slow start we are now really busy. As most of you would know we have had two Open days, the first at Coastlands Mall on the 16th February was a bit slow, but it gave as some publicity On Wed 17th Feb. we had our advertised Open Day at our New Rooms. Thanks to our advertising on Radio, local papers and leaflet drop this was a great success. It was advertised from 9-30am – 2pm, when we were setting up at 8-45am the public started to arrive at 8-45 am and was a continuous until 2 pm, we were really rushed of our feet It was the best Open Day we have ever had. We attracted in excess of 60 New Members .
A big thanks to our Committee the members and students who came along to assist.
We are very busy with classes which is great. We had a bit of juggling to do with Easter falling early this year and a very short term.
Everyone who came through was very impressed with our New Rooms and appreciates the time and effort that we all put into getting the Rooms up and running. If we had to get contractors in to do the work it would have put us over budget. So another big thank you to all who gave of their time to get the rooms prepared for the classes.
Now we are asking for some help.
We would really appreciate if some of our members would consider coming onto our Committee, or you could be co-opted to work outside the committee. It is only a few months to our AGM in July. As you probably have heard we are a bit short on the committee at the moment due to spouses of committee not being well.

Just a reminder to all the SeniorNet is a Voluntary Organization and with a diminished Committee at the present time a few of us are working a lot of hours into making it work for you. Any help would be gratefully received.
Also in the News Letter you will find the new Schedule for Term 2. 1st 5 week period and the 2nd 5 week period. Unfortunately the 1st term was cut short by Easter falling on the 1st of April this year. So we had to juggle classes around to fit them all in.
Please bear with us as we are doing our best to accommodate everyone’s wishes for all classes and at a time and day that suits you all. There will be one more News Letter before the AGM. Please think about what you could do to help us out. When you see that a Workshop is advertised please ring and let me know which ones you would like to do. These will be listed at the bottom of the Diary page.
All Course enquires please ring me Lois Goodsell 904 7558 or e-mail me at Goodsell@paradise.net.nz until such time as John is back with us.
I am temporary Course Co-ordinator at the present time..
We are offering a New Session.
We are putting in place a new practice question day for all students. This is a time when you can come along with your problems that you are having with the course you are doing or you may just wish to come down to the rooms and practice down there.
If you have missed a class for any reason you could come and do it then and there will be someone there to help. Don’t forget to bring your manuals for this. If you don’t fully understand some aspect of your lesson come along and we will assist you where possible.. We will have a cup of tea or Coffee biscuit and a chat. A gold coin donation would be appreciated for our time and effort. All monies go to SeniorNet.
Wishing you all a Happy Easter and look forward to seeing you all in the 2nd Term.

For many of our tutors, February and March have provided the first opportunities for fronting courses in our new rooms. Despite some setbacks, all tutors available have volunteered their time.
Because there was a dearth of classes in the last term of 2009,for many of us it has been a while since our skills were put to use. However---- we are well underway, and all tutors spoken to have been pleased with student response, and satisfied with their own performances.
We have gained three new tutors, and are very grateful for their putting their "hats in the ring" for this essential role! All three have commented that they are surprised at HOW much they knew--- much more than they thought they did--- and got a real buzz out of helping others to learn about their computers.
We look forward now to the start of term 2, and new classes to work with!
